We are a new chamber ensemble of vocal soloists who embrace a repertoire of song spanning more than five centuries. The individual singers in the group embody a broad range of musical experience; we have sung opera and early music, art song and oratorio, as soloists and as members of large choruses and small ensembles. As chamber musicians, we bring this broad base of expressive possibility to our programs of solo and ensemble music of varying styles.
Silver Swan has a special love for music of the nineteenth century, but we are equally happy to bring forth the sung art of the Renaissance. German Lieder, French Melodies, part songs; all will find themselves side by side with chansons, Italian madrigals and canzoni. This Swan will also journey into the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, making stops in the 17th and 18th as well. As we explore the vast and varying possibilities of concert song, we will help you along the way.
These uncertain economic times might seem like an unusual hour to start a new arts organization. To be sure, many of us feel now that we must simplify our priorities, but is there ever a time when we can do without culture and the arts? They are as necessary as food and shelter, we believe, and an integral part of our lives.
In the coming days, as you look back at this page to learn more about our individual artists, we hope you will come to feel the same way, and that you will join us in our journey.
